Allergies médicamenteuses et effets secondaires en anglais : comment l'expliquer clairement aux médecins et pharmaciens
Confondre « allergy » et « side effect » est l'une des façons les plus simples de dérouter un clinicien anglophone. Une allergie est une réaction du système immunitaire et peut être dangereuse — éruption, gonflement, difficultés respiratoires. Un effet secondaire est une réaction connue à un médicament (vertiges, nausée, bouche sèche) qui disparaît généralement à l'arrêt du traitement. Lorsqu'un médecin entend « I'm allergic to X », il retire ce médicament de vos options à vie. Lorsqu'il entend « It made me dizzy », il peut simplement ajuster la dose ou modifier l'horaire de prise. Faire clairement la différence permet au clinicien de prendre la bonne décision.
