Opening Hook
The Problem
Better Phrases
Today I will talk about…")
- "I want to start with something that surprised me."
- "Here's the question I want us to walk out answering today." —
- "Let me show you a number first."
- "Before I dive in, here's where I'm hoping we'll land." —
- "I'll keep this short — three ideas, twenty minutes." —
- "Let me walk you through this in three parts." —
- "That's the first piece. Now for the second." —
- "We're about halfway through — stay with me."
- "Coming back to where we started…"
- "One more thing before we move on."
- "What this slide is really saying is…"
- "Don't worry about all the numbers — focus on the column on the right."
- "I'll let this sit for a second." —
- "The headline here is…"
- "There's a lot on this slide. Here's the one part I care about."
- "What jumps out here is…"
- "The line we want to watch is…"
- "It's not the size of the number — it's the direction." —
- "If you squint at it, you can see…"
- "The story behind this number is…"
Next slide")
- "That's the what. Let me show you the why." —
- "Now, here's where it gets interesting." —
- "Hold that thought, because it connects to the next one." —
- "Same question, different angle." —
- "Let me zoom out for a second." —
6. Q&A(像專業講者一樣處理問題)
- "That's something I've been thinking about too." — 取代 "good question."。
- "There are actually two parts to that."
- "Just to make sure I follow — are you asking about X, or Y?" —
- "Honestly, I don't have that in front of me — let me follow up."
- "Let me think about that for a second." —
- "I see it slightly differently." —
- "That's fair, although I'd argue…" —
- "I'd actually push back on that a little."
- "Just to clarify — it's closer to 18%, not 25%."
- "I hear the concern, and even allowing for that…"
- "Let me take a second on this one." —
- "Let me back up for a second." —
- "Where was I going with this — right, …"
- "Give me a moment to phrase this properly." —
- "Let me leave you with one thought." —
- "If you forget everything else from today, remember this."
- "The whole story comes down to one number." —
- "If I had to put this in one sentence, it would be…"
- "That's the case I wanted to make. Now — happy to take questions." —
Bonus:
- "Bear with me for a second." —
- "Quick aside…" —
- "I'll be honest with you."
- "Here's the part I find most interesting." —
- "Stay with me on this one." —
- "Does that make sense?" —
Don't Say This / Say This
Don't say: "Today I will talk about three things."
Say: "I'll keep this short — three ideas, twenty minutes."
Don't say: "Next slide please."
Say: "That's the what. Let me show you the why."
Don't say: "Good question."
Say: "That's something I've been thinking about too."
Don't say: "Sorry, I forgot what I was saying."
Say: "Let me take a second on this one."
Don't say: "Okay, that's all, any questions?"
Say: "Let me leave you with one thought — [your line]. Thank you. Happy to take questions."
Mini Script
"I want to start with something that surprised me. When we looked at last quarter's data, we expected to see one story — and we found a completely different one. So I'll keep this short: three ideas, twenty minutes. Here's the question I want us to walk out answering: are we measuring the right thing? Let me show you a number first."
"Before I wrap up, I want to come back to one thing. If I had to put this whole presentation in one sentence, it would be this: the slow option isn't actually safe. That's the case I wanted to make. Thank you. Happy to take questions."
Common Mistake
一個簡報者在同一段收尾裡同時射出 "Let me leave you with one thought"、"If I had to put this in one sentence" 和 "If you forget everything else",聽起來就像在唸短句字典。
Practice
