主謂一致:藏喺長句裏面嘅細微 TOEFL 錯誤
一位學生喺一個 Academic Discussion 回應做咗兩段。佢哋寫咗:「The series of experiments conducted by the research team over the past three years...」而家個動詞嚟緊。佢哋個腦聽到「experiments」同「years」,兩個都係複數,佢哋就打「were」。句子繼續行落去。佢哋永遠冇望返轉頭。三分鐘之後佢哋撳交。真正嘅主語係「series」——單數。
主謂一致係人人都以為自己掌握咗嘅文法規則。單數主語,單數動詞。複數主語,複數動詞。 就係噉。噉點解呢條規則喺 TOEFL Writing 同 Speaking 回應裏面不停咁跣?
因為當主語同動詞貼住嘅時候,呢條規則好容易。The cat sleeps. The cats sleep. 冇問題。但係 TOEFL 唔會叫你寫短句。佢要求學術語域,亦即係長而有層次嘅句子,喺嗰度主語同動詞可以相隔六個、七個,甚至十個字。喺嗰十個字嘅某處,你嘅耳仔接管咗你嘅眼睛,而你嘅耳仔揀咗最近嗰個名詞。

點解呢樣嘢喺 TOEFL iBT 2026 好重要
帶有從屬子句嘅長句正正係令 Writing 評分員話「語言運用好成熟」嘅嘢。一個淨係寫短句嘅考生,無論啲想法幾好,都會掙扎住喺 Writing 部分攞唔到 24 分以上。
但係一旦你開始建立較長嘅句子——"The author's main argument, supported by three pieces of evidence and a counterexample, demonstrates that..."——你就打開咗一致性錯誤嘅門。你嘅句法越豐富,動詞被拉去錯誤名詞嘅機會就越多。
喺 Reading 度,一致性錯誤唔存在(啲文章經過專業編輯),但係 Read an Academic Passage 確實利用主謂距離。句子簡化模式有時取決於識別一個長主語裏面邊個名詞係真正嘅核心。如果你喺一篇文章裏面搵唔到真正嘅主語,你就無法準確噉釋義佢。
喺 Speaking 度,漏咗一致性係一個經常出現嘅「輕微語言運用」扣分。評分員容忍幾個跣低。佢哋唔容忍一個模式。如果每一句長句都有一個被干擾名詞拉走嘅動詞,語言運用嘅分項分數就會受打擊。
陷阱
個陷阱有六種常見形式。每一種都共享同樣嘅根本原因:一個比真正主語更近個動詞嘅名詞,拉走咗個動詞嘅耳仔。
1. 主語同動詞之間嘅介詞短語。 The box of chocolates... 主語係「box」(單數)。「Chocolates」埋藏喺一個修飾佢嘅介詞短語裏面。
2. 集合名詞。 The team...——當個團隊作為一個單位行動時係單數(「the team is winning」),喺某啲英文變體裏面當成員個別行動時係複數。喺 TOEFL 正式 Writing 入面,單數係較安全嘅預設。
3.「Data」、「media」、「criteria」。 技術上係複數(「datum」、「medium」、「criterion」係單數形式)。喺學術 Writing 入面,「data」往往當作複數:the data show。喺口語英文裏面,「data shows」好普遍。揀一個並喺單一個回應裏面保持一致。
4.「Each」、「every」、「either」、「neither」。 全部接單數動詞。Each of the students has... 唔係 have。個介詞短語裏面嘅複數名詞(「of the students」)係一個誘餌。
5. 用「and」對「or」嘅複合主語。「Tom and Maria are...」(複數——「and」結合)。「Tom or Maria is...」(單數——「or」揀一個)。
6. 倒裝句。 There is... / There are... 主語喺動詞之後嚟。There are several reasons...(主語係「reasons」,複數)。喺時間壓力下,寫作者對所有嘢都預設用「there is」。

Academic Discussion 回應。 你想聽落學術,所以你建立一句句子好似 "The combination of high tuition costs and limited financial aid have discouraged many qualified applicants from applying." 個動詞應該係「has」。「Combination」係主語。個介詞短語裏面嘅複數名詞將個動詞拉向錯誤方向。
Write for an Academic Discussion 回應。 你喺度釋義一個學術論點並建立你自己嘅回應。原文可能話 "A growing body of research suggests..." 你可能會寫 "A growing body of research suggest..."——因為「research」對你嘅耳仔嚟講睇落係複數。佢唔係。
Listen to a Conversation / Take an Interview。 當你由一個對話報告一個學生嘅意見時,"One of the reasons he gives for opposing the new policy..." 仍然需要同「one」一致,唔係「reasons」。好多考生喺說話壓力下喺度預設用複數。
Read an Academic Passage 嘅句子簡化模式。 一句帶有多個子句嘅長句要求你揀保留必要意思嗰個選項。陷阱干擾項往往微妙噉轉變一致性,將一個複數原因變成一個單數原因,或者反過嚟。
快速修正
對你喺 TOEFL 上面寫嘅任何長句嘅四步例程:
- 劃走啲介詞短語。 喺主語同動詞之間任何以「of」、「in」、「on」、「for」、「with」、「between」開頭嘅嘢,喺一致性目的上係隱形嘅。剩低嘅就係你嘅主語。
- 搵啲特殊字。 Each、every、either、neither、one of、the number of → 單數。A number of、plenty of、a lot of(配複數名詞)→ 複數。
- 留意倒裝。「There is/are」、「Here is/are」。主語係喺動詞之後。揀之前先望前面。
- 測試替換。 你可唔可以將個長主語換成「it」或者「they」?如果係「it」,單數動詞。如果係「they」,複數動詞。
