修飾語亂晒大籠:當一個短語黐錯咗對象

你做緊 Academic Discussion,過咗八分鐘。你啱啱打咗:「Walking to class, the lecture hall looked empty.」喺你個腦入面聽落冇問題。你繼續向前。幾分鐘之後,你再讀一次,發現有啲嘢唔妥——個演講廳冇行去任何地方。但係已經太遲,唔可以重寫成句句子,而你仲要收尾。歡迎嚟到 TOEFL iBT 2026 上面最靜悄悄嘅文法陷阱之一:靜靜雞噉黐咗錯誤名詞嘅修飾語。

修飾語問題通常唔會向讀者大叫。佢哋唔會好似漏咗動詞咁搞冧句子。佢哋淨係將個意思稍微扭歪——足夠搞亂評分員、拉低你嘅清晰度分數,或者令一條 Reading 釋義題比本來需要嘅更難。喺時間壓力下,修飾語錯誤係嗰種會喺成篇文章裏面累積嘅小蟲。

點解呢樣嘢喺 TOEFL iBT 2026 好重要

修飾語——形容詞、副詞、介詞短語、分詞短語、關係子句——存在嚟添加精確性。當佢哋坐喺啱嘅字旁邊,你嘅句子就變得生動:students who study consistently improve faster。當佢哋坐喺錯嘅字旁邊,你嘅句子就變得好笑或者含糊:students improve who study consistently faster。喺考試日,兩個版本嘅「錯」都幫唔到你。

喺成個 TOEFL iBT 2026 各部分,修飾語準確性周圍都會出現。喺 Reading 度,Read an Academic Passage 嘅釋義同推論模式都取決於你解析一個短語實際修飾邊個字。喺 Listening 度,講者通過修飾語位置示意邏輯關係,錯過個黐附就可以扭轉一個定義。喺 Speaking 度,一個錯置嘅「only」或者「just」重塑評分員聽到嘅意思。喺 Writing 度——尤其係 Write an EmailWrite for an Academic Discussion——修飾語錯誤係「我知道佢哋大概想表達啲乜」呢類評語嘅最大單一來源。「大概」唔係你想要嘅分數。

陷阱

一個修飾語需要一個主人——佢所描述嗰個字。英文文法假設個主人係最近嘅合理名詞或者動詞。當一個學習者快速寫嘅時候,個主人會喺四種常見方式裏面被錯置。

懸垂分詞。 一個分詞短語例如「Walking to class」或者「Having finished the experiment」必須黐住主句嘅主語。如果主語係「the lecture hall」,就冇嘢喺度行、亦冇嘢喺度讀本實驗筆記。個短語懸垂,係因為真正嘅主人——個學生——根本冇被講出嚟。

錯置短語。 一個坐錯位置嘅修飾短語會睇落好似描述緊最近嗰個名詞。「The professor explained the chart on the projector with three colors」——係個投影機三色定個圖表三色?讀者要靠估。

瞇眼修飾語。 一個字——往往係副詞——坐喺兩個動詞之間,可以修飾任何一個。「Students who study often improve their scores」——often 係配 studyimprove?瞇眼修飾語造成真正嘅含糊,唔淨止係風格上嘅雜亂。

Only / just / even / almost 嘅位置。 呢啲細細粒嘅副詞係英文裏面最具外科手術威力嘅字。將 only 移一個位置,個意思就會轉變:「I only read two articles」≠「I read only two articles」。喺 Read an Academic Passage 度,呢個係一個頻繁嘅推論陷阱。

副詞同動詞嘅位置。 頻率同方式副詞喺英文裏面有偏好嘅位置。「She always is late」落得唔啱;「She is always late」落得啱。喺時間壓力下,呢啲會滑離位置,靜靜雞噉將一句句子標記為偏離語域。

錯 / 較好 / 點解

Walking to class, the lecture hall looked empty. Walking to class, I noticed that the lecture hall looked empty. 主句嘅主語必須係嗰個喺度行緊嘅人。
Having reviewed the data, the conclusion seemed obvious to Maria. Having reviewed the data, Maria found the conclusion obvious. 「Having reviewed」需要 Maria 做主語,唔係「the conclusion」。
I almost answered all of the questions. I answered almost all of the questions. 「Almost」應該坐喺佢所限定嘅嘢旁邊——「all」,唔係「answered」。
The professor described the experiment in her office with great enthusiasm. In her office, the professor described the experiment with great enthusiasm. 移動個地點短語可以防止讀者以為個實驗喺佢辦公室發生。
Students who study often improve their grades. Students who study regularly improve their grades. 「Often」係瞇眼修飾語——用一個無歧義嘅副詞嚟替換佢就修正咗個黐附。
She only submitted the email after re-reading it twice. She submitted the email only after re-reading it twice. 「Only」應該修飾個時間條件,唔係個動詞。
Driving through the city, the new museum was impressive. Driving through the city, we found the new museum impressive. 係一個司機,唔係一間博物館,喺度揸緊車。
The student gave the essay to the professor that was written in pencil. The student gave the professor the essay that was written in pencil. 個關係子句應該坐喺「essay」旁邊,唔係「professor」。

邊度會出現

Academic Discussion 回應。 一個典型嘅 130 字回應會塞入兩三個分詞短語——「Building on Carlos's point」、「Considering the cost」、「Looking at the long term」。每一個都需要主句嘅主語做隱含嘅執行者。好多時間不足嘅回應喺第二句句子裏面漏出一個懸垂分詞。

Read an Academic Passage 嘅釋義模式。 ETS 風格嘅答案選項往往包含三個幾乎釋義咗原文嘅選項,加上一個微妙噉轉變咗修飾語黐附對象嘅選項。正確答案保留原本嘅黐附;陷阱答案將個短語重新黐到一個唔同嘅名詞。

Write an Email。 禮貌短語例如「Hoping for your understanding」、「Having considered your offer」同「Speaking on behalf of the team」全部都要求寫作者做下一個子句嘅主語。切換到被動語態——「your understanding is hoped for」——靜靜雞噉令個分詞變成孤兒。

Take an Interview 回應。 口語英文容忍稍微鬆啲嘅修飾語位置,但係評分員仍然會留意到當「only」落得遠離佢所限定嘅字、或者當一個副詞飄去一個尷尬嘅位置。

快速修正

每當你寫一個分詞短語、一個開句嘅介詞短語,或者任何以 onlyjustevenalmost 或者 nearly 開頭嘅副詞時,停一停,問三條問題。

第一,邊個或者乜嘢喺度做緊個短語嘅動作? 如果答案係一個人,嗰個人必須係主句嘅主語。如果答案係一件嘢,嗰件嘢必須係主語。

第二,個修飾語係咪坐喺佢嘅主人正旁邊? 如果一個關係子句或者介詞短語飄離咗佢所描述嘅名詞,將佢拖返去。

第三,個限定副詞係咪坐喺佢所限定嗰個準確嘅字上面?「I only ate one cookie」通常意思係「我淨係食咗;我冇做任何其他嘢」。如果你意思係「我食咗剛剛一個」,就寫「I ate only one」。
