Switch
Plug
Cord
可以用 turn on the light、turn off the light、replace the bulb、burned-out bulb、flickering light、dim light、loose plug、damaged cord、working outlet、dead outlet、power outage、power strip、extension cord、surge protector、tripped breaker、reset the breaker 同 electrical panel。
可以用嘅動詞包括 plug in、unplug、switch on、switch off、replace、flicker、dim、spark、trip、reset、overload 同 check。
「The hallway light keeps flickering.」(走廊盞燈一直閃。)
「The bulb may be burned out.」(個燈膽可能燒咗。)
「This outlet is not working.」(呢個插座唔通電。)
「The breaker tripped when I turned on the microwave.」(我開微波爐嗰陣跳咗掣。)
「The desk lamp will not turn on, even with a new bulb.」(換咗新燈膽,部枱燈都係著唔到。)
「The kitchen light flickers for a few seconds after I switch it on.」(廚房盞燈開咗之後會閃幾秒。)
「The bedroom light is too dim for reading.」(睡房嘅燈太暗,唔夠光睇書。)
「The outlet near the bed does not work, but the outlet by the door is fine.」(床邊個插座唔通電,但門口個就冇問題。)
「The plug feels loose in the outlet.」(個插頭插喺插座入面覺得鬆。)
「The cord is damaged, so do not use the appliance.」(條電線壞咗,所以唔好用嗰件電器。)
「The power strip is full, and we should not overload it.」(個拖板插滿晒,我哋唔應該再令佢過載。)
「A breaker tripped when the space heater and microwave were on at the same time.」(暖風機同微波爐同時開嗰陣跳咗掣。)
「There was a short power outage during the storm.」(風暴期間有過一次短暫停電。)
「The bathroom fan and light are on the same switch.」(浴室嘅抽氣扇同燈用同一個掣。)
形容燈光質素可以用 bright、dim、flickering、burned out、harsh 同 glare。
「The bulb is too bright for the bedroom.」(呢個燈膽放喺睡房太光。)
「The light is dim even at the highest setting.」(就算校到最光,盞燈都係暗。)
「The ceiling light is flickering.」(天花盞燈喺度閃。)
「The bulb burned out last night.」(個燈膽琴晚燒咗。)
「The screen has a lot of glare in the afternoon.」(個熒幕落晝有好多反光。)
「I replaced the bulb, but the light still does not work.」(我換咗個燈膽,但盞燈都係著唔到。)
「The lamp works in another outlet, so the outlet may be the problem.」(部燈插另一個插座就用得到,所以問題可能出喺個插座。)
「The plug is loose and falls out easily.」(個插頭好鬆,好易甩出嚟。)
「The outlet feels warm, so I unplugged everything.」(個插座覺得暖暖哋,所以我拔晒所有嘢。)
「The cord is frayed near the plug.」(條電線近插頭嗰度磨損咗。)
「The power strip is overloaded.」(個拖板過載咗。)
「The whole block had a power outage.」(成個街區都停咗電。)
「The living room outlets stopped working, so I checked the breaker panel.」(客廳啲插座失靈,所以我去睇咗個電箱。)
「I saw sparks from the outlet.」(我見到個插座有火花。)
「There is a burning smell near the power strip.」(個拖板附近有燒焦味。)
「The cord is damaged.」(條電線壞咗。)
「The breaker keeps tripping.」(個掣不停跳。)
一句謹慎嘅句子,例如「The breaker trips whenever I plug in the heater」(每次我插個暖爐就會跳掣),會好過「The heater broke the electricity」(個暖爐整壞咗啲電)。
Plug(插頭)喺電線上面;outlet(插座)喺牆上面。
英文唔好講「open the light」同「close the light」。要講 turn on the light 同 turn off the light。
應該講 the bulb is burned out。
應該講 the power is out 或者 there is a power outage。
唔好講「the breaker jumped」。應該講 the breaker tripped。
Charger(充電器)係為電池供電嘅。
The outlet behind the desk is not working. I plugged the lamp into that outlet, but it would not turn on, so I replaced the bulb. The lamp still did not work there, but it worked in another outlet across the room. The plug does not feel loose, and I do not see sparks or smell anything burning. It may be a dead outlet or a tripped breaker, so please check the outlet and the breaker panel before I use it again.
