After a Fall, Sprain, Cut, or Bruise: Describe Injuries in English
This article teaches English communication for healthcare situations. It is not injury assessment or treatment advice. If you suspect a fracture, had a head injury with loss of consciousness or vomiting, have heavy bleeding that won't stop, an open wound, severe neck or back pain with inability to move, or an abdominal injury during pregnancy, go directly to the emergency room (ER) or call 911. Don't wait it out at home.
Injury English is different from cold English: the provider cares most about the mechanism of injury and the time of injury. The same wrist pain from a basketball twist, a hand-down fall, or a car crash leads to very different next steps. This article helps you tell that story clearly — it does not help you decide whether you have a fracture.

This article is for English communication practice only. For a suspected fracture, any head impact, neck or back injury, open wound, bleeding that won't stop, abdominal injury in pregnancy, or any behavior change in a child after a fall, go directly to the ER or call 911 — don't wait it out at home. Whether you need an X-ray, stitches, a tetanus shot, imaging, or an orthopedic consult are decisions for the medical team on site.
