Opening Hook

2人の発表者が、同じスライド、同じデータ、同じ結論で話すとします — それでも一方は整理されて聞こえ、もう一方はスクロールしてスキップしたいYouTube動画のように感じられる。違いは、ほぼ間違いなく中身ではありません。聴き手に「自分は今どこにいて、どこから来て、どこへ向かっているのか」をさりげなく伝える、小さなつなぎフレーズの差です。良いニュース: そのフレーズは多くて12個ほど。一度手に入れれば、ぐっとコントロールが効いて聞こえます。

The Problem

「整理されて聞こえたい」と思った学習者は、たいてい最も重い英語に手を伸ばしてしまいます — "Firstly, I would like to draw your attention to…"、"In conclusion, I would like to summarize the main points of my presentation…"。間違いではありませんが、カンペを読み上げているように響きます。時間も食います。"I would like to draw your attention to" と言い終える頃には、聴き手はもう数秒ぶんの集中を失っています。

実際の発表者は短い道しるべを使います。"Okay, second thing." と言うのです。"Here's where it gets interesting." と言うのです。"I'll come back to that." と言うのです。こうした小さなフレーズが同じ構造的な仕事 — ここから新しいセクションだよ、ここが要点だよ、これは脇道だよ — をしてくれますが、マニュアルではなく人間のように聞こえるのです。

Better Phrases

論点と論点のあいだを移る

  • "Okay, second thing." — 短くてカジュアル。社内ミーティングに最適。
  • "So that's the problem. Now, what did we do about it?" — 一息で1つのセクションを閉じ、次を開く。
  • "Let me move on to the part that surprised us." — 新セクションの合図と、好奇心の刺激を同時に。
