Inglés para los cuidados de seguimiento: visitas de control, derivaciones, justificantes y resultados de laboratorio

Mucha gente piensa que la consulta termina cuando sale de la sala de exploración — pero la fase de seguimiento suele ser donde las cosas se atascan. Quizás necesites reservar una visita de control, obtener una derivación a un especialista, solicitar un justificante médico para la escuela o el trabajo, consultar resultados de laboratorio u organizar tus registros para llevártelos a casa antes de salir del país. Cada cosa necesita un inglés distinto.

Este artículo enseña comunicación en inglés y plantillas escritas para cuidados de seguimiento. No es un diagnóstico médico, una receta ni un consejo legal. Esta guía se divide en 5 escenarios de seguimiento. Para cada uno, obtienes tanto una versión de llamada telefónica como una plantilla de correo.

Receptionist: I see you in the system. Two weeks from today is the 24th. I have Monday at 11 or Wednesday at 4.

You: Wednesday at 4 works. One more thing — could I get a doctor's note for school covering the dates I was sick?

Receptionist: Sure. Could you tell me what dates the note needs to cover?

You: I missed class on the 8th, 9th, and 10th. Could the note say I was advised to rest during those days?

Receptionist: No problem. We'll have it ready when you come in for the follow-up. Or, I can email it to you in the next couple of days. Which is easier?

Diálogo situacional 2: solicitar una derivación

You: Hi, I saw Dr. Patel last week, and he suggested I see a dermatologist about a skin issue. Could you help me with the referral?

Receptionist: Yes. Do you have a specific dermatologist in mind, or would you like a recommendation in our network?

You: A recommendation would be great. My insurance is [BLANK]. Could you make sure the dermatologist is in-network?

Receptionist: Of course. I'll send the referral to Dr. Chen at [Clinic Name]. They'll contact you to schedule. Should take 1–2 business days.

Práctica

Reescribe cada escenario para que suene natural a un recepcionista o médico.

1. Pide reservar un seguimiento dentro de dos semanas.
2. Necesitas un justificante médico para tu seguro — pídele que incluya los días que estuviste de baja.
3. Pregunta si tu seguro requiere una derivación para ver a un dermatólogo.
