بعد أن يقول الطبيب "Let's order some tests"، تسير بقية الزيارة عادةً هكذا: تأخذ طلب الفحص إلى مختبر أو مركز أشعة أو صيدلية؛ يسألك موظف الاستقبال عن نوع الفحص، وما إذا كنت صائماً، وما إذا كان لديك أي زرعات معدنية. لكل فحص نصّ قصير بالإنجليزية، لكن كلمة واحدة (contrast, fast, claustrophobic) قد تربكك. احفظ بضع جمل لكل واحدة من فئات الفحوصات الخمس الشائعة — الدم، البول، الأشعة السينية، الموجات فوق الصوتية، الأشعة المقطعية، الرنين المغناطيسي — وستصبح عملية الفحص أسلس بكثير.
